On November 3, 2020, California Residents passed Proposition 19 (2020) The Home Protection for Seniors, Severely Disabled, Families, and Victims of Wildfire or Natural Disasters Act. Proposition 19 allows homeowners who are over 55, disabled or victims of natural disasters to transfer their property tax base with them when they sell their home and purchase a new one. This constitutional amendment would also prevent people who inherit family properties from keeping the low property tax base unless they use the home as their primary residence and the market value is less than $1 million.
